China’s latest trend on Covid-19
China’s aggressive measures have slowed the corona virus.
They may not work in other countries.
Chinese hospitals
overflowing with COVID-19 patients a few weeks ago now have empty beds. Trials
of experimental drugs are having difficulty enrolling enough eligible patients.
And the number of new cases reported each day has plummeted the past few weeks.
“China’s
bold approach to contain the rapid spread of this new respiratory pathogen has
changed the course of a rapidly escalating and deadly epidemic,” it says. “This
decline in COVID-19 cases across China is real.”

It
is stated in this book that “Unrestricted Warfare (超限战, literally "warfare beyond
bounds") is a book on military strategy written in 1999 by two colonels in
the People's Liberation Army, Qiao Liang (乔良)
and Wang Xiangsui (王湘穗). Its primary concern is how a nation such as China can
defeat a technologically superior opponent (such as the United States) through
a variety of means. Rather than focusing on direct military confrontation, this
book instead examines a variety of other means. Such means include using
International Law.
After

As the fight
against a new virus shifts to Europe and beyond, China is supplying millions of
masks and other desperately needed items to struggling governments, hoping to
build political ties and defuse criticism that it allowed the disease to spread
early on.
China has given
$20 million to the World Health Organization for COVID-19 efforts. While the EU
and the U.S. have made larger pledges to combat the disease, they are now
preoccupied by the crisis at home.
As the new
coronavirus races around the world, tanking markets, cutting off global travel
and suspending school for hundreds of millions of children, governments are
desperate for ways to contain it.
China, the place
where it first appeared, says it has the answers.
To the surprise
of some, the country that concealed and mismanaged the initial outbreak appears
to be bringing it under control, at least by its own official figures. The
number of new cases reported has fallen dramatically in recent days even as
infections are surging in other countries. The World Health Organization has
praised Beijing’s response.
China says the
trend proves that its containment measures — which include a lockdown on nearly
60 million people in Hubei and strict quarantine and travel restrictions for
hundreds of millions of citizens and foreigners — are working. And it has begun
trying to promote its efforts as successful in propaganda at home and abroad.
China’s blunt force
strategy poses deeper questions for other countries. Its campaign has come at
great cost to people’s livelihoods and personal liberties. Even countries that
could copy China still have to ask whether the cure is worse than the disease.
Countries
studying China’s approach would need to consider how it has upended nearly
every corner of Chinese society.
W.H.O. experts
sent to China have also highlighted clinics that could diagnose hundreds of
cases a day with CT scans and laboratory tests, and the mass isolation centers
in stadiums in Wuhan that separated people who had mild infections from their
families.
Coronavirus:
Countries reject Chinese-made equipment
A number of
European governments have rejected Chinese-made equipment designed to combat
the coronavirus outbreak.
Thousands of
testing kits and medical masks are below standard or defective.
What’s wrong
with the equipment?
On Saturday, the
Dutch health ministry announced it had recalled 600,000 face masks. The
equipment had arrived from a Chinese manufacturer on 21 March, and had already
been distributed to front-line medical teams.
Dutch officials
said that the masks did not fit and that their filters did not work as
intended, even though they had a quality certificate.
"The rest of the shipment was immediately
put on hold and has not been distributed,” a statement read. “Now it has been
decided not to use any of this shipment.”
Spain’s
government encountered similar problems with testing kits ordered from a
Chinese company.
It announced it had bought hundreds of
thousands of tests to combat the virus, but revealed in the following days that
nearly 60,000 could not accurately determine if a patient had the virus.
Turkey also
announced that it had found some testing kits ordered from Chinese companies
were not sufficiently accurate, although it said that some 350,000 of the tests
worked well.
China recently bought the world's largest pork producer, Smithfield Foods of Virginia. Reuters This takeover, the largest takeover of a US company by a Chinese firm, represents a precedent that will damage the American economy and cost jobs in the long run.
